The New York Times and ABC News put prunes on their list of "The 10 Best Foods You Aren't Eating".
July 9, 2008 - Awareness about the many health benefits of dried plums continues to grow as the media takes a second look at the little fruit that everyone thought they knew inside out!
Said ABC on prunes: "Prunes contain high amounts of neochlorogenic and chlorogenic acids, antioxidants that are particularly effective at combating the 'superoxide anion radical.' This nasty free radical causes structural damage to your cells, and such damage is thought to be one of the primary causes of cancer."
"Great appetizer"
The ABC network even has a suggestion as to how dried plums can make a great appetizer:
"Wrap a paper-thin slice of prosciutto around each dried plum and secure with a toothpick. Bake in a 400°F oven for 10 to 15 minutes, until the plums are soft and the prosciutto is crispy. Most of the fat will cook off, and you'll be left with a decadent-tasting treat that's sweet, savory, and healthy."
Surprise guests and friends with many other great recipes.
